Resumen
This work examines the pre-Hispanic legacy of Tacna and Arica through the work of Pedro P. Canales, highlighting his contribution to the ethnology and archaeology of the region in his 1910 article for "El Pacífico". As an educator and scholar in the Ministry of Public Instruction, Canales played a key role in preserving the history and indigenous culture during a period of intense Chileanization. His book "A Journey through the Cordilleras of Tacna and Arica" is particularly significant, providing an ethnographic and geographic view of the Aymara communities, and emphasizing the importance of integrating local perspectives into regional historiography.
