Resumen
Academic performance is a complex multifactorial phenomenon that depends on the educational origin. From here, it is analyzed the influence of educational background on the academic performance of 215 civil engineering students at the University of Tarapacá. The methodology is based on a quantitative study of multiple linear regression, with cross-sectional data. The predictive capacity of the University Selection Test is questioned, whose conclusions show that the score obtained is not a good predictor of academic performance, since it does not directly influence, unlike school dependence, which has a higher predictive value.
