Nuevos fechados absolutos para el proceso de formación de sitios Chinchorro en el Morro de Arica, costa centro-sur andina

The latest survey carried out in the area of the Chinchorro culture at Morro de Arica archaeological reserves (Atacama Desert, south-central Andean coast) has allowed us to date and stratigraphically analyze the domestic deposits spatially associated with the Chinchorro funerary areas of the archaeological sites Morro 1, Morro 1/6, Morro 1/5, and Colón 10. The range of preceramic 14C dates obtained in this survey (7090–3715 cal BP) compared to the range of 14C funerary dates (6453–3687 cal BP) recorded in previous studies allows us to hypothesize for the domestic spaces of this sector of Morro de Arica a probable occupation prior to the development of mummification among the human population. The chronostratigraphic analysis carried out suggests a process of site formation marked by two moments of funerary activity in association with domestic occupation. All these deposits register intense human occupation during the ceramic period and recent times.
