Resumen
Within the framework of the Pacific War, Chile occupied Tacna and Arica in 1880. Three years later, in mutual agreement with Peru, Chile signed the Treaty of Ancón, in which it assumed conditional so-vereignty over these territories, even though this choice should have resided with the local peasants. Nevertheless in a short time, La Mo-neda coordinated, thanks to its agents, a socio-political project to «Chi-leanise» the local Peruvians. The administration of justice and land use, military service and the schools were three fields by which the Chilean state became instituted in southern Peru, a process that was not without difficulty.
