Resumen

Considering that contemporary universities face significant pressure to restructure their management practices, this article aims to identify trends in scientific production in relation to governance and quality in the field of higher education. For this end, a bibliometric analysis of the articles of journals indexed to Web of Science published between 2010 and 2020 was carried out. Bibliometrix and VOSviewer were used for data analysis and visualization of bibliometric maps. The results show a strong increase in scientific production if the extreme years of the period analyzed are compared. Likewise, three main research topics were identified, namely, 1) laws and reforms to higher education, 2) perceptions of academics about the reforms, the new teaching scenario and their levels of satisfaction, and 3) commitment and participation of the student. We conclude that, from a transversal perspective, the leadership of the directors, the participation and critical thinking of the students and the collaboration between higher education institutions are fundamental topics for the institutions to fulfill their roles with an emphasis on quality. Finally, a field is projected with growing publications that address this issue if one considers the current framework of world higher education where the ideals of deregulation, quality and financial autonomy are considering as urgent needs.
