Resumen
This article examines the experiences of traditional Aymara midwives (Usuyiri) in the border region of Arica and Parinacota, located in northern Chile. The aim was to identify and systematize their ancestral medicinal practices related to pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period, with the purpose of validating and valuing ancestral knowledge. Using a qualitative approach within a postpositivist paradigm, the study employed focused ethnography as its methodological framework and conducted semi-structured interviews with four elderly midwives. The findings reveal profound ancestral knowledge transmitted orally and preserved through intergenerational practice. The Usuyiri address the physical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions of care, maintaining a strong connection with nature and their surrounding environment. The study highlights the importance of recognizing these practices as intangible cultural heritage, supporting their preservation, and promoting an intercultural health model for diverse communities.
