Resumen

The aim of this study is to analyze the psychometrics properties of the Spanish abbreviated version about the Trait-Meta Mood Scale TMM-24. This instrument is a trait scale that evaluates the emotional intelligence (EI), which is defined as the ability to identify, express, manage and use the emotions. The research was carried out through The Second Order Confirmatory Factor Analysis, which did not generate a suitable adjustment for the pieces of information. Owing to this situation, we used a Bifactorial Model that demonstrates a better adjustment. The sample was formed of 1,393 university students, where 62.2% were women and 37.8% men from the North of Chile. According to the results, the internal consistency measured through Cronbach's Alpha was satisfactory, both, in the Sub-Dimensions and in the General Model. (Attention, α= 0.85; Clarity, α= 0.88; Repair, α= 0.86; General Model, α= 0.89). In addition, the factorial charges and the conceptual coherence of the items, show up low charges in the Clarity dimension, suggesting that this factor does not contribute properly to the model. Therefore, we estimate that the variance of the measurements observed are better explained because of the existence of a general factor. Finally, the results suggest that the Trait-Meta Mood Scale TMM-24 is an instrument reliable and acceptable to evaluate Emotional Intelligence in Chilean students.
