Resumen
This exploratory study aims to determine whether there is a relationship between the process of knowledge management that takes place inside the university academic units and the quality of the institutions. To this end, a questionnaire of 14 questions was applied to 43 directors of academic units in five Chilean universities. The data collected allowed to build a multiple linear regression model where the dimensions: create knowledge, share knowledge and apply knowledge, explained a 85.7% of the institutional quality variance. Results show that knowledge management impacts positively on the institutional quality. At the same time, the three dimensions of knowledge management, i.e.: creating, sharing and applying knowledge, are shown to be highly correlated with each other, suggesting that knowledge management should be viewed from an integrated perspective.
