Estado chileno en Tacna y Arica: Antecedentes de una experiencia de ocupación (1880-1914)

This paper presents what was, historically, the experience of the occupation by the Chilean State of the territories of Tacna and Arica as a result of the Pacific War. The study is approached from the perspective of taxation and its institutions which, as an expression of the new State, had the task of governing the new territories and its inhabitants. This had as a political objective to contribute to an effective occupation and ‘chilenization’ of the incorporated territories that were still in dispute pending a future plebiscite.
