Resumen
Violence against women has become a subject of interest in the international community, which has qualified this type of violence as a serious infringement of their human rights. Among the various theoretical frameworks that try to explain the causes of this type of violence, we can find the construction of gender relationships that are present in the different social groups. The aim of this paper is to analyze femicide in Chile and the legal and social responses toward this crime. We reflect over violence against women as a social and human rights problem, define femicide and analyze the nature and extent of this crime. The analysis of this phenomenon in Latin American countries, but particularly in Chile, reveals that significant progress has been made in addressing the problem, but that there are still challenges to prevent and eliminate this type of crime adequately.
