Resumen
This research provides evidence that relates the institutional mission with the quality of a sample of 26 universities through a quantitative study in Chile. The missions of the sample institutions were analyzed and their pertinence qualified, so as to relate them with the quality, measured as years of accreditation, using a model of linear regression. The findings show that mission design has an impact on the quality of higher education institutions. The mission explained 85.9% of the variance in the years of accreditation of the sample, which is highly significant. From these results it follows that a correct definition of the institutional mission is related to higher levels of quality in higher education institutions.
