Resumen
This paper aims to establish the economic and political impact, in the city of Arica, of the 1929 Peace Treaty signed as a consequence of the Pacific War between Chile and Peru, and that definitely incorporated this city into the Chilean State. For this, the information appeared in the daily journal El Ferrocarril and in the newspapers La Gaceta and El Pacífico was revised, to which are added statistics of censuses, economic figures and the review of other primary and secondary sources. As a result, it can be established that the 1929 treaty ended with the special attention given to the area by part of the State of Chile, generating a sense of abandonment. This context led the national political forces to find in Arica a new development space, empathizing with the local postulates and proposals. In this way, the treaty of 1929 would have unified the postulates of social movements and the slogans of left-wing political groups. However, this is over, given the experience of unmet local needs.
