Resumen
This article presents a systematic review of quantitative studies and reports on gender inequalities and violence faced by women researchers and teaching of social sciences in Chilean scientific institutions and universities. Based on a detailed review of secondary data, its objective is to offer a general view of women’s access to higher education, their labor insertion, and gender gaps that characterize their professional practice in this field of knowledge. Data is compiled on scientific production, awarding of research funding and impacts of the productive, reproductive and care conciliation in women’s careers. We will begin with a summary of the data on international academia, emphasizing the Latin American and Caribbean contexts. Then, we will review data from the Chilean government and the diagnoses made by the country’s higher education institutions. We conclude with a discussion of the conclusions drawn by the article.
