Resumen
This study aims at analyzing the contents issued in two newspapers of local circulation about foreigners and/or immigrants and, published between 04/01/2012 and 03/30/2013, using a mixed methodology with emphasis on the qualitative analysis and with a constructionist orientation, utilizing the QSR-Nvivo12 program. From the results obtained it is concluded that immigrants are associated with negative events of regional occurrence, mainly if they are of Bolivian and Peruvian nationalities and males, while the number of references to Colombian nationals is lower. The relevance of the study lies in the role of the written press in the construction of the foreign ‘other’, and how information can influence the formation of stereotypes, prejudices and stigmas towards these groups.
