Abstract
Partial specific volume and specific refractive index increment of a series of poly(thiocarbonate)s and poly(carbonate)s were determined by densimetry and refractometry measurements, in benzene and/or 1,4-dioxane. The effect of the size and nature of the side groups on partial specific volume is analyzed. Poly(thiocarbonate) with a phenyl side group exhibits a more contracted state than the alkyl substituted poly(thiocarbonate)s. The value of the refractive index increment of poly(carbonate)s and poly(thiocarbonate)s carrying the same side group show similar values.
