Abstract

The research presents preliminary ideas about the relationship between the State of Chile and the Italian, Italian-Peruvian and Italian-Chilean population in the new Chilean-Peruvian border during the post-Pacific War until 1929. Methodologically, from a qualitative point of view, the research defines official views (through work in institutional and state archives) regarding migration and its incorporation processes into the Tacneño-Ariqueña society, complemented with work in personal, family, institutional, and migrant collectivities archives. The results suggest the grouping of Italian migrants in networks that sought to protect their privileges, in the face of the prevailing political uncertainty at the time.
