Abstract
This article addresses the symbolic, musical, and cultural expressions that are part of the historical presence of the chunchos dances that participate in the Virgen del Carmen de la Tirana festival in the Tarapacá Region in northern Chile. Ethnohistorical and musicological antecedents on the chunchos and the links with musical-choreographic manifestations of the festivities of the Virgin of Paucartambo (Cusco) are exposed, allowing to re-evaluate some hypotheses regarding the influences on the celebration of the Virgin.
