Abstract
In the extreme north of Chile, we find the region of Arica and Parinacota, in it an amazing Valley of Lluta, which in the Quechua language means “slippery” or “muddy”. A natural laboratory that goes from sea level to 4,700 meters, high and with a route of only 250 km in a few hours, where a sample of the adaptation of life to extreme conditions is observed; as is the case of “lluteno” corn. Where the availability of Boro in the Lluta valley partially mitigates the negative effects of salinity in “lluteño” maize. The osmotic adjustment allows this maize to survive in conditions of high salinity in the soil, however, the presence of Boron makes this strategy and the elasticity of the cell wall remain at the levels of the control plants, due to high availability of boron.
