Abstract

This research aimed to establish the relationship between polyvictimization and posttraumatic stress symptoms in a sample of adolescents from Arica, Chile. The Juvenile Victimization Questionnaire (JVQ) was used to asses the experiences of victimization and polyvictimization, and to assess the symptoms of posttraumatic stress the Child PTSD Symptom Scale (CPSS was used). The questionnaires were applied to a sample of 706 high school students between 12 and 17 years (M= 15; SD= 1,32). The results show that polyvictimization significantly predicts the symptoms of posttraumatic stress, and the polyvictimization model is a better predictor of posttraumatic symptoms than individual categories of victimization. The findings can be useful for planning psychosocial intervention programs coherent with lifetime histories and the needs of victims.
