Abstract
Due to its impact on accreditation processes, academic qual-ity, and the international positioning of institutions, research management has become a fundamental strategic function in higher education. The objective of this study was to conduct a literature review aimed at categorizing recent strategies imple-mented to support research in this context. To this end, a systematic mapping and characterization of the specialized literature on research support strategies in higher education institutions was carried out, identifying typologies, application con-texts, and target audiences. The results reveal that, alongside efforts to strengthen the capacities of academics and students, institutional support strategies, interdisciplinarity, and strategic alignment have emerged as mechanisms that contribute to the professionalization of research activities and the expansion of development opportunities. In addition, initiatives involv-ing non-traditional actors and the broader community stand out, strengthening the social role and institutional impact of research. It is concluded that research support strategies in higher education constitute a multidimensional approach that requires guiding frameworks and institutional capacities capable of flexibly articulating diverse practices around shared strategic objectives.
