Abstract

Population aging, coupled with declining birth rates worldwide, has generated a series of changes in countries' economic activity, leading older adults to explore alternatives to ensure both their economic and emotional well-being. This has given rise to senior entrepreneurship. In this context, the present research seeks to identify the factors that motivate older adults to become entrepreneurs in the tri-border city of Arica. The methodology employed corresponds to a non-exploratory qualitative approach, utilizing an instrument designed for data collection. The conclusions and findings highlight that senior entrepreneurs mostly initiate their ventures motivated by the identification of opportunities, which are often aligned with their lifestyles. Likewise, these entrepreneurs possess the necessary characteristics to successfully launch a business, being visionary individuals with the ability to identify business opportunities. The study highlighted the weak support network available to these individuals. It also identified a need for greater support and access to information about available benefits from both public and private institutions. There is a perceived tendency to question aspects such as motor skills, agility, and learning speed. Finally, there is a lack of awareness regarding the impact of senior entrepreneurship on employment, quality of life, and the overall well-being of the population.
