Abstract
HPV genomes antigens were detected in 30 women who attended to San Jose Hospital in Santiago of Chile, for early detection of cervical cancer. Colposcopically directed biopsies were obtained for hystological confirmation of cervical lesions. Genomes and antigens of papilloma virus detection was done in the same material. Slot blot techniq was used for presence of HPV6, 11, 16 and 18 genomes. DNA probes were detected by immunoenzimatic were assay using alkaline phosphatase and cromogenic substratum. Viral antigens were detected using specific antisera for capsid proteins, by means of sterptavidine peroxidase system and cromogenic substratum. The results showed 23/30 positive viral genomes; 8 were positive for 6b+ 11 and 15 samples were positive for 16+18. This result show a great frequency for 16+ 18 genotypes. This type of virus was observed in low and high lesion. (Bethesda system). 8 cases were positive for viral capsid antigens. Only one case was positive for antigen and negative for genome. The results confirm the higher frequency of viral genomes detection with respect to antigens. The presence of 16 and 18 viral genomes in low grade lesions is very important because these genotypes are asscoiated with the cervical cancer development. These molecular technics are useful in the genital HPV infection studies in countries like Chile, where a high incidence of cervical cancer exists.
