Abstract
This article analyzes the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to act as criminogenic factors, that is, as causes of criminal phenomena. The analysis is conducted by distinguishing two perspectives in which this role can be realized. From a micro-criminogenic perspective, it is argued that AI technologies have the technical capacity to be directly or indirectly involved in the commission of crimes or conduct that, due to their dangerousness or harmfulness, should be so. From a macro-criminogenic or structural perspective, it is argued that the formation of AI capitalism can lead to an increase in social conflict or an intensive use of the criminal justice system to protect the economic system built on AI.
