Abstract

This article discusses Chapter V of *Theatrobrace* through a critique of the concept of adequate representation, which Greppi defends throughout his book and which is based on representative practices themselves. It argues that Greppi cannot adequately account for the practice of political representation. First, because his diagnosis of the malaise afflicting our democracies, which he exemplifies with the Spanish 15M movement, can be seen not as a problem of representation, but as a problem of participation and factionalism. Second, because the very notion of representation that the author defends is implausible, since it ignores one of the conceptual presuppositions of representation: that something represented actually exists.
